‭Could you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your creative journey.

My name is Marina Schiptjenko and my creative journey started in 1980 when I was 15 years old and formed the electronic pop group PAGE together with my then-boyfriend. He was a skater and I was kind of a nerd…We were inspired by early electronica, Mute Records, and Silicon Teens and that subculture became my inspiration and family during the 80´s. In 1991 I started Andréhn-Schiptjenko together with Ciléne Andréhn and even if you have to be creative to run a gallery, I am on the other side now; taking care of artists.

Where did your creative journey begin, and how has your background influenced your work?

My background still influences me though. Growing up in the 80s on a sub-scene. You were always an outsider in the most positive and energizing way. That identity lingers and it gives me a certain freedom.

Could you describe your current creative projects or initiatives? What are you most passionate about in your creative work?

Representing artists in the long term is Andréhn-Schiptjenko’s driving force and ambition. It’s a constant, inspiring process.

What do you consider your creative expertise, and how did you develop it over time?

Producing exhibitions in dialogue with the artist. We have been doing this for over 30 years and time and experience give you the expertise.

What advice would you give aspiring creatives as they embark on their own creative journey?

Passion combined with very hard work is everything. It sounds like a cliché, but there´s truth in what Edison said: Genius is 1% inspiration, 99% perspiration.
